Description

1953 Mercedes-Benz 300 'ADENAUER' Cabriolet DThis 1953 Mercedes-Benz 300 Cabriolet D is a largely original example that represents an exciting opportunity for its next loving owner to acquire one of the marques most iconic automobiles. Black with tan leather interior and black soft-top. 6-cylinders with twin Solex carburetors, mated to a column-shifted four-speed manual gearbox. A mechanically sound and nearly-presentable car that can be used as-is or restored to your heart's desire. The interior was refreshed around 2000 and the engine was rebuilt in 2016 with replacement pistons, bearings, and gaskets. The car has been recently serviced and runs and drives well but would certainly benefit from cosmetic recomissiong at this time. It will need a repaint as the paint is tired and showing its age. The soft-top is newer and in good condition. Offered with its original factory books. The 300 Cabriolet D was among the most expensive and luxurious cars available on the German market. Furthermore the Cabriolet D was one of the rarest body-styles to grace a Mercedes-Benz chassis. Its convertible sedan setup was typically reserved for heads of state and board members. One of Mercedes-Benz's first all-new designs of the post-war era, the 300 debuted at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 1951 and would succeed in re-establishing the Stuttgart firm in the front ranks of prestige car manufacturers, marking a return to the Mercedes tradition of building high-performance luxury automobiles. Custom built by Mercedes-Benz's most experienced craftsmen, the 300 was luxuriously appointed and trimmed with materials of the highest quality. Fast and elegant, it was one of very few contemporary vehicles capable of carrying six passengers in comfort at sustained high speeds. It was the car of choice among West German government officials, and throughout Europe and the USA was widely favored by businessmen, financiers and politicians. Indeed, 'Adenauer' became the 300 saloon/limousine's unofficial model name, after German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer, its most famous customer. The 300 Cabriolet d version was among the world's most expensive automobiles of its day. Largely original Example Mechanically Sound The top-of-the-line 300 model Among the world's most expensive automobiles of its day Price: $149,500
